The Annual Fox River Trail Runners banquet will be held again this year at the historic Lincoln Inn on Route 31 in Batavia on Saturday February 3rd.
There will be a cash bar open at 6:30 pm and a terrific buffet dinner will be served starting at 7:15 pm. We will present awards to the winners of the club circuit in 2006 and will have a drawing for some gift certificates. You do not have to be an award winner to attend. This is a club event for the family and everyone is welcome.

The club is sponsoring the event to keep the cost affordable and encourage attendance by as many club members as possible. Since they prepare the food based on the numbers that we commit to, we really need to have a reservation by January 30th. Email Joe Arnold and reserve your space today.

For a Map to Lincoln Inn, go here.

Join us for good food, friends, recognition and the chance for $$
Cost is $15 for adults, and $8 for children under 12

Dear Tom,

You are receiving this email as a member of the Fox River Trail Runners.

  • I don’t know where to start because there are a lot of things that I would like to communicate to you. The first very significant change you are already reading. The Foxtales newsletter has been redesigned to allow us the opportunity to communicate more effectively, easier and with a whole new look. We were anxious to get this first edition out to you as soon as possible, so we still may have some rough edges, but the new format gives us a lot of flexibility. In addition, you will not have to download those huge PDF files. We owe a tremendous thanks to Carolyn Kovash for developing this new Foxtales look and delivery direct to you. We will be eliminating the hard copy Foxtales, which will save the club a significant amount of money, and help save some trees. Another significant change is the makeup of the 2007 Runners Council. At our January council or board meeting we elected new officers and approved several new Directors to the Fox River Trail Runners Board. The names and responsibilities are listed elsewhere in this newsletter, but I am really excited to have not only the additional resources, but the many skills that they bring with them. We are blessed with a lot of talent in this club, and I am positive that you will start seeing great things this year and in the future. Here are some other quick highlights old and new that we are working on:

  • It's Time for the Great Western
  • I hope that you all have your training schedule locked in and will be ready for the Fox River Trail Runners club sponsored event and this year it should be as great as ever. I opened registration about a week ago and as of this morning we had 144 runners registered. Remember that there is a cap on the number of participants that we can allow, in order to keep this a manageable size and a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Registration will be closed when we reach 800 and the last two years, the race filled by April 1st. Just like some of the other popular races in our area, the long distance events fill up earlier every year. I will try and keep you informed via email in the coming weeks as we approach the 800 limit.

  • My Race at Disney
  • I take the opportunity to run races out of state whenever I get a chance, so when my wife Carol, wanted to make a trip to Florida to visit some of her relatives, I started checking race dates. The Disney half marathon in Orlando was scheduled for January 6th so I registered early, because the race fills quickly, and our travel plans were set around the race.

  • MAKE 2007 AN INJURY FREE YEAR!

Information referenced from Matt Fitzgerald RESOLVE TO STAY INURY FREE

Most of you reading this are runners, and as runners you naturally love to run and do it every chance you get unless of course you get hurt. Most running injuries, or athletic injuries are overuse injuries. These types of injuries occur for several reasons: overtraining, poor technique, improper equipment, and muscular or musculoskeletal imbalance. By understanding the major causes above it is much easier to attempt to prevent injury.

  • By Steven Richey

Just what is an “ultramarathon”? Well, the most commonly accepted definition is any race longer than the standard marathon (26 miles, 385 yards). They can be of any distance with the most common being 50K, 50 miles, 100K and 100 miles. In addition, “fixed time” races are popular as well. These are events where everyone is allowed the same amount of time and the winner is the one with the most miles. Common durations for these are 8, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours. Six and 10 day events exist also, but are a bit more rare. These events are held on tracks, roads, trails, etc. The most famous of these is probably the Western States 100, which is a trail race in California and is considered the “Boston” of ultrarunning. Illinois doesn’t have a lot of ultras, but there are Chicago Lakefront events (50K in the Spring and a both 50K and 50 miles in the Fall). Down near Danville each August there is an 8 hour endurance run on an easy 3.29 mile trail loop. Near Pekin there is a 100 mile trail event, and there are a few other small 50K events, including one near McNabb. On the other hand, Wisconsin is famous for its trail ultra events.
