Fabyan is located on Route 25 approximately 1/4 mile north of Fabyan Parkway. Just look for the big windmill! Plenty of parking is available. Group photo will be taken. As part of the ongoing tradition, the group will run for one hour, one minute, and 9 seconds (to celebrate 2009).

A Word from the Editor
Fighting Yeast Belly After the Holidays
Jennifer Zuri
I've always wondered why social events have to involve food. Who started this trend anyway? Instead of serving birthday cake to celebrate the passing of another year, why don't we get together for a spin class? Rather than inviting friends over for dinner, why don't we invite them to join us for a scenic walk around the neighborhood? Of all the social events we celebrate throughout the year, Christmas is perhaps the most notorious holiday for indulging in all kinds of goodies and sugarplums. I'd argue it's even worse than Thanksgiving. After all, we usually have only one Thanksgiving meal, but Christmas celebrations with bounteous spreads of food can pop up on the calendar numerous times throughout the month of December.

| Winter Running Tip

Take an old pair of running shoes and screw in some half-inch #8 or #10 sheet metal screws in the thick part around the perimeter of the soles. Obviously you would not want to have them in the center (ouch). I only have 4 screws in these shoes from last winter and that was OK, but 5 or even 7 might be better.
If you plan to run on roads where you will occasionally encounter ice or slippery conditions, this will keep you upright. You might hear a little click when you run, but it will not interfere with your stride. I can't take credit for the idea; I learned it from a friend of Steve Richey while running at the Arboretum.
Also notice the date on the instep of the shoe. I like to date my shoes to help me decide when to retire them. This pair is over a year old but fairly low mileage since I wore them primarily on days when ice was present.

Your Role Models are Right Here!
I certainly hope you already know the Geneva High School girls cross country team took the Class 3A state championship for the second time in 2 years. And they did it in style scoring a mere 51 points - that's 100 points better than runner up Hinsdale Central and just 1 point off the all time record. (Remember, cross country scoring works like golf.)
Four of these young women received All-State medals for finishing in the top 25. To give you a little perspective, this performance was somewhat like pitching a no-hitter in the World Series.
