The Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding, motivating, supporting and celebrating the running community of Chicagoland. CARA connects runners to resources that enable them to run - further, faster, better, for life.
Due to CARA's advocacy efforts, runners in the Chicago area enjoy some of the highest quality road races in the country. This race has partnered with CARA and, on behalf of its runners, has agreed to comply with and uphold CARA's road race standards. The object of CARA's Race Standards is accuracy, safety and comfort for runners. To view those Standards and to learn more about CARA, visit www.cararuns.org.

Updated Race Circuit Information
Winston Rasmussen
CARA has published their 2008 racing circuit and you might want to take a look at the schedule and consider running their circuit this year. There are a number of 5k events on the circuit and noticibly missing is the Chicago Marathon, Chicago Distance Classic and the Shamrock Shuffle. It definitely favors the faster sprinter types. For more information visit CARA's website.
The Fox River Trail Runners Circuit is in limbo at present. Joe Arnold has done a terrific and unselfish job of tracking, calculating and posting the results for several years. Joe is retiring from the Runner's Council and assuming some other volunteer roles, and we do not have a replacement at this time. If you have a little experience with a spreadsheet program and would like to help with the circuit, contact any member of the Runner's Council.
The Viking Sunset Family Night 5K and youth events have not been scheduled for 2008 and may not happen without a Race Director. If you are interested, please contact any member of the Runner's Council.

A Word from the Editor~
My Running Bio
Jennifer Zuri
I was remiss in securing a biography this week, so indulge me while I share my own personal running biography. Other members of the FRTR council will also share each of their bios in upcoming issues.
How I Started Running:
I used to teach aerobics, but after 10 years I lost interest. Running didn't seem to take a lot of coordination so I decided to give it a go. Chris Johnson (fellow FRTR member) belonged to the health club where I taught group exercise and he loved running. Our health club actually started a small running group called "Kickin' Asphalt." Nine miles was the furthest I ran with that group and Chris was kind enough to run slow with me.
With some of my favorite running friends after the Runner's Edge Half Marathon on Labor Day. I'm the short one in front.

5K Training Clinic - Dewey Dash
Sign up for a 5K training clinic on Monday, February 18th at the Elburn Town & Country library. The clinic is offered in conjunction with the library's 5K Dewey Dash race offered in April. Two clinics are offered:
6 to 8 pm: Beginner's Clinic
Learn how to train so you can run or walk a 5K race. Each participant receives a beginner's training program and the basics of running will be discussed.
7 to 8 pm: Intermediate Clinic
If you've got a few 5K races under your belt and want to improve your finishing time, this session is for you. Intermediate training programs will be discussed and participants will learn how to incorporate speed work into their training routine.
A $25 registration fee includes entry into the Dewey Dash on Sunday, April 13th, which includes a goody bag and t-shirt. Call the library at 630.365.2244 for more information or to register for the clinic. You don't need to be an Elburn resident to sign up for the training clinic. You can email any questions to jzuri@mchsi.com.
