A Word from the President~
A Tale of Grandma's Marathon
Well at least I can say that I survived another marathon and the old legs hurt no more today then they did before the race. I finished standing up in a PW performance but will live to run again.
It was a terrific day for spectators along the shores of "Gichigami" (Indian word for Great Water) but a warm offshore wind left the great water laying pretty calm along the shore. We had a few white cumulous clouds but mostly bright sunshine and once again 80 degrees at the finish.

| Badwater UltraMarathon
~ Mary Gorski
Mary's story was submitted by FRTR member Steve Richey.
A folly. A silliness.
Wednesday evening, a friend had been hit by a drunk driver while out on an easy bike ride. Hours later, I watched as life support was removed and she quickly died.
"When do you leave for Badwater?" asked several people, trying to find something "normal" to talk about in the midst of such insanity.
Badwater? It seemed so silly to me now. Running 135 miles across Death Valley. What was the point? Folly.

Running Safety Tips
Jennifer Aviles, Tucson, AZ
As a runner who was jumped many years ago along a path that bordered a somewhat busy street that borders a park here in Tucson while running early in the morning, I can tell you I did not expect it given where I was running nor did I recover from the shock of it all for quite some time even though I managed to break away.
Afterwards I wrote an article for our local running paper and about the same time the RRCA published a similar article in its national newsletter. Here are some of the points covered by both pieces; I am sure others have additional suggestions.
