Upcoming Circuit Race

The first race on FRTR's 2008 Circuit is coming soon!  It's the 5K Spring Gallop at Blackberry Farm in Aurora on March 29th at 8:30 a.m.

If you've never actively participated in the FRTR's annual circuit, this is a great year to tackle it.  All of the races are local, with the exception of the Chicago Marathon.  Although some of you world travelers may consider Chicago to be local.

Click here to access the registration form for the 5K Spring Gallop.  And if you haven't seen the circuit listing yet, click here to see the full listing on our website.  If you do run a circuit race this year, be sure to contact Carlos Viramontes at wings26.2@comcast.net so he can include your finish results.

A Word from the Editor~
Touched by an Angel
Jennifer Zuri

On occasion, and probably more often than not, we're touched by angels that take the shape and form of ordinary human beings.  The past two Saturdays, I've been blessed with just such an angel.

March always prove to be a challenging month for most runners in the Midwest.  Spring hasn't fully sprung, and winter is reticent to remove its icy claw from the landscape.  Blustering winds and dark mornings leave me wanting to burrow under my down comforter in the early hours of a Saturday morn.  But I've got running partners waiting so I drag myself out into the cold, cruel world.

Runner's Bio~ Renee Daily

ReneeHow long have you been a runner and what motivates you to keep running?

I have been running now for 5 years.  I started out not even being able to run from 1 driveway to the next without losing my breath, and I worked my way up to a marathon.  It's incredible. What keeps me motivated? Well just my LOVE for the run, the friends I have met along the way and the incredible places I have been to, just because I have run there.

How many miles per week do you typically run?

Well right now I am in training for The Flying Pig marathon in Cincinnati,(5/4/08) so I am running about 35-50 miles per week.

Spinning Proves Beneficial to Running
By Phil Vitkus

This winter I've been preparing for a triathlon mostly by "spinning," running a moderate amount, and swimming off and on (you can tell I need to get on a solid schedule!).

One thing I've noted after spinning a few months is - no Achilles tendon soreness.  I can't say if my chronic injury was tendonitis, an inflammation; from what I understand it was likely tendinosis, deterioration.

CARA

The Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding, motivating, supporting and celebrating the running community of Chicagoland.  CARA connects runners to resources that enable them to run - further, faster, better, for life.

Due to CARA's advocacy efforts, runners in the Chicago area enjoy some of the highest quality road races in the country.  This race has partnered with CARA and, on behalf of its runners, has agreed to comply with and uphold CARA's road race standards.  The object of CARA's Race Standards is accuracy, safety and  comfort for runners.  To view those Standards and to learn more about CARA, visit www.cararuns.org.
