Runner's Bio ~ Steven Lauridsen
How long have you been running and how did you get started? I ran cross country at a very low level in a small high school in remote Sidney, Montana in the early 80s, then no more running until the fall of '98, when I started with 5Ks-basically on a dare from my boss.
Do you continue to run outdoors during winter? I mostly limit winter running to thawing temperatures. Sometimes I join the Windrunners at Danada Forest Preserve. Otherwise, I resort to the treadmill and add a little swimming. Read more

The Gray Turtle Report
"But I don't want to be a CLYDESDALE!" I continued to whine as I sulked about the house. "I AM NOT A CLYDESDALE!". My wife, tired of listening finally responded with "THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!"
I had just registered us for the Little Rock Marathon, and during the registration came across this strange thing called Clydesdale/Athena. I should have just ignored it. But I didn't. Seems I was a Clydesdale. All I had to do was weighed over 200 pounds.

2008 Circuit Standings Error
Winston Rasmussen
I would like to publicly offer my apologies to Bill Gilmore and Kaori Maeshima for a big-time error on my part at our recent awards banquet. Bill and Kaori were not recognized for their accomplishments and they both finished 1st overall in their respective categories.
Bill was our first place overall male winner with an age graded achievement of 76.51% and Kaori was first overall female winner with an age graded achievement of 74.33%. Outstanding accomplishment for both Bill and Kaori and I hope they will accept our sincere apology.

Three Factors that Lead to Running Injuries - and How to Avoid Them
David Ginsberg
This is the time of year all athletes should be working on improving technique and becoming more fit and balanced. Sports injuries are the result of forces that become too much for bone or soft tissue to absorb and adapt and therefore cause failure. All sports injuries are the result from an acute or sudden force that is too much for the tissue to overcome (e.g. a sprained ankle or broken bone) or from repetitive forces that overtime create so much stress that the tissues finally fail partially or completely.
These are most commonly known as overuse injuries or repetitive motion injuries. It is these types of injuries that most parents, coaches and athletes do not understand or know how to prevent. For this reason these are the types of injuries that we will focus our preventitive techniques on.

FRTR Facebook Update
We've now got 30 FRTR members who have joined the Fox River Trail Runners group on Facebook! We're still hoping to get more members signed up. We've already shared winter running tips and there's more to come!
Some of you may be wondering, "What is Facebook?" Facebook is a social media site that provides the opportunity to connect with friends, family, and people with similar interests.
You can write comments about yourself and what you're doing, upload photos and videos to share with others, join groups that share your interests, and so much more. It's an easy way to have a personal webpage without the fuss of laying it out. What's even better - it's FREE!
