Word from the Editor ~
Feelin' a Little Lost
By Jennifer Zuri

It always seems to me that November signals the end of racing season ... not running season, mind you ... just
racing season. And so I find myself looking back on this year with a bit of contemplation for this was the year I struggled with the choice not to run a marathon in the fall. My main reason being that I didn't want to risk getting an injury before Boston rolls around in April 2010. I also didn't want to be burnt out from training just to turn around and do it all again in time for April.

While I felt relieved over the decision, I found myself kind of
floundering around with how to train. My personal philosophy is that I should run enough weekly miles so that the only race I ever really have to train for is a marathon. This training philosophy allows me to pick up any race, 5k to a half marathon, at a moment's notice.

Important News about Fox and Turkey
New Date: Thanksgiving Day, November 26th

Fox and TurkeyThis year's Fox and Turkey 4-mile and 1-mile race will is this Thanksgiving Day, November 26th! Please make note of it on your racing calendars.

This year's race will be a regular chip-timed race as opposed to a predictor race. We're hoping the move to Thanksgiving Day will increase participation. Many runners enjoy a Thanksgiving race after popping the turkey into the oven. But without a Thanksgiving race in the tri-cities area, it can pose a problem driving some distance to a race and getting back in time to finish dinner preparations.

The race course is the same as previous years. For more information about this year's race, visit our website.

Fox and Turkey Volunteer Help
Thanksgiving Day

A few volunteers are still needed with the Fox and Turkey 4-mile race. If you can do any of the following, please notify Tom Jurgens at jrunalot@yahoo.com with your name and how you can help.
  • Post race refreshment distribution
  • 4 mile race trailer (walk behind last person)
Ask friends and family to join you to help before, during or after the race!

We Want Your Marathon Photos!

New Shoes at Dick Pond Athletics
By Glen Kamps

November is always one of the biggest months for new updated shoe styles to reach the marketplace.  Six of the The industry's TOP TEN will get a face lift in November.  That means two things to you the runner:

1.  Your favorite shoe is about to become extinct, the price has just gone down, and it is time to make a move to avoid saying, "They discontinued my favorite shoe and I'm going to scream!"

2. The new version of your favorite shoe has arrived and you either want to be the first in your running club to own it or, you want to assess the alterations made to it for the better.

The NEW shoes that will arrive this month are:

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 10: The best selling Brooks shoe ever.
Asics GEL 1150:  Mr Pond's favorite shoe.
New Balance 760:  This replaces the 769 - our best selling NB trainer.
Asics GT GEL 2150:  The best selling shoe in the USA.
Saucony Triumph 7:  Saucony's most cushioned trainer
Asics GEL Kayano XVI:  The best running shoe ever made?
