Your Chicago Marathon Results!

If you ran the Chicago Marathon please contact Carlos Viramontes at wings26.2@comcast.net and let him know so we can add your results to our circuit listing. This will greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to filter through all the finisher names. Thanks!

Important News about Fox and Turkey
New Date: Thanksgiving Day, November 26th

Fox and TurkeyThis year's Fox and Turkey 4-mile and 1-mile race will is moving to Thanksgiving Day, November 26th! Please make note of it on your racing calendars.

This year's race will be a regular chip-timed race as opposed to a predictor race. We're hoping the move to Thanksgiving Day will increase participation. Many runners enjoy a Thanksgiving race after popping the turkey into the oven. But without a Thanksgiving race in the tri-cities area, it can pose a problem driving some distance to a race and getting back in time to finish dinner preparations.

The race course is the same as previous years. For more information about this year's race, visit our website.

Halloween Fun Run
October 28, 6 p.m.

Join us Wednesday October 28th at 6 p.m for our annual Halloween Fun Run. Wear a costume, go for a run, win prizes and join the group afterward for dinner at a local restaurant.

The Halloween Fun Run starts in the parking lot behind 5/3 Bank in Batavia and follows the bike trail. Be sure to bring some money for dinner. Contact Tom Spadafora at frtrmembership@comcast.net with any questions.

How Do You Train for an Ultra?
By Steve Richey

Ultra Runner RicheyWhen I'm asked this question, I think many folks are thinking "how would I train for an ultra?".  As you probably already know, an "ultra" is defined as any race distance that is longer than the standard 26.2 mile marathon.   So, just how does one go about preparing to cover these sorts of distances?

The short answer is that you have to run, and to enjoy the day-to-day training.  As in any training program, there are many levels - some of us take competition more seriously than others.

KindOfAMarathon ~ November 29

RunningDon't forget ... if you missed the Chicago Marathon and are looking for something a little different ... consider running the third annual KindOfAMarathon at 8:15 on November 29th that begins in Sycamore and runs out and back on the Great Western trail. It's a bargain at just $9 per entry. Space is limited to 50 runners so sign up right away!

Sacroiliac Joint Syndrome
Submitted By David Ginsberg
Written by Brian Mathers, MD and Ben Greenfield, CSCS
 Sacroiliac
Whether it happens while hunched and hammering for dozens of miles on the bicycle, pounding the pavement on a long weekend run or throwing the hips side to side during an hour-long swim workout, we as triathletes have all experienced some form of lower back pain during or after our training sessions.

And if you haven't yet joined the ranks of those who have this nagging injury, the inevitable consequence of chronic repetitive hip motion will eventually catch up with you, possibly manifesting itself as a shoulder, upper leg, knee, ankle or foot injury.

Congratulations Marathoners!

Congratulations to everyone who trained for and/or completed a marathon this fall. And good luck to those who have a marathon coming up in the next few weeks. Don't forget, if you ran the Chicago Marathon, please send your race results to Carlos Viramontes at wings26.2@comcast.net.
