Word from the Editor ~
RunningNearing the Finish Line
By Jennifer Zuri

Every once in awhile it's good to take a "lifestyle audit." Setting new goals, checking to see what goals have been met, determining how you spend your time, and prioritizing what should receive most of your time.

Most of us will put family at the top of our priorities. Many of us will include work, religion and yes, running, near the top of our list as well. And so I've been conducting a lifestyle audit lately and find I need to get closer to the finish line on some of the priorities in my life.

Why Cold Weather Causes Joint Pain
by David Ginsberg

Cold WeatherCold weather and joint pain go together like hammer and nails.  People with any kind of joint pain will almost inevitably experience more pain during the winter months.

On the surface, this combination may seem hard to understand-if you are supposed to ice an injury to make it hurt less, then why do your joints hurt more when they get cold?

Word of Marathon Thanks
By Larry Lobb

I just want to send a quick message thanking all of my fellow Fox River Trail Runners for their encouragement and support of my recent fund raising efforts.  With your help, I was able to raise just over $1,000 for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation during my running of the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated and will help some truly deserving individuals.

All the best to everyone at FRTR in the new year!

On Being an Outside Winter Runner
By Glen Kamps

Winter RunnerI wish that I had kept count of the people who have made the statement, "I hate running inside all winter on the treadmill."   It reminds me of a person who keeps hitting themselves in the head with a hammer and prays for the pain to stop.

I would wager that these inside winter runners have made their decision to stay on the inside motorized rubber belted running machines based on a very limited number of outdoor running experiences.
